Last week I talked about the four steps to problem solving and identified the first thing that has happened to our country has been the removal of God from public life. This is in a country that was founded on religious freedom. I am not talking about forcing anyone into a particular religion. I am talking a country founded on the principle that there is a God above and everyone has a right to worship Him in their own way.
I was once an Atheist. But I never once thought it offensive that others worshipped their God. I never once found it offensive that there were prayers in public places or the Ten Commandments etched at the Courthouse in a big rock. But we live in a time where the left will use any and all fringe groups to front their communist cause of a Godless society. If we have any hope of saving this great nation we must put God back in our lives and in our country.
I was once an alcoholic. Through a challenge from a wonderful friend who wasn't even a member of the church he recommended I found Christ. Over thirty years ago my wife and I changed our lives and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Many cringe and want to tell me we don't believe in Christ. I share this only to make the point that a good friend of mine did to me many years ago. He said, "Eddie, we can never let our differences get in the way of the fact we love each other". He was right.
It is time we come together for the sake of America and let God sort our the differences. I am not talking about a particular religion here. I am talking about a Supreme Being, a Creator. For some who may not believe in a Supreme Being maybe you believe in your country as that 'thing' greater than self. Whatever it is, that 'thing' that drives you to love what you have then so be it. As long as that thing has at its core something larger than you, with a belief system where we act for the good of the whole, all people. It is time to get serious about it right now.
For me it is God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Each of us must start as individuals and if we are believers in something bigger than ourselves put those beliefs in place right now. Every day, every hour and pray to our Heavenly Father. I have heard it said that 'what we do everyday is what we believe, all the rest is just talk'. Think about that.
The starting point for us as individuals is to live each and every day by exhibiting in our lives the teachings we hold true. Remember, what we do is in the end what we really believe. Start this day helping our great nation by living by the standards and principle of what we believe. All the rhetoric in the world will not change our circumstances, only our behavior will.
That is step one ... start right now. Commit to live by what you say you believe!
