I Pledge Allegiance ...

Most Americans are familiar with the Pledge of Allegiance. Many of us grew having to say the pledge each day before school. Boy those days are long gone. Lets look quickly at the Pledge and see what it says ...

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
And to the Republic for which it stands.
One Nation, Under God, Indivisable, with liberty and justice for all."

Its interesting to learn the pledge was originally written by a socialist in September of 1892. The original pledge did not say the United States and did not have the word God in it. It was adopted in the United States with the words being added in 1923. It was changed to read 'to the flag of the United States of America.

The words 'under God' were added in 1954 when President Eisenhauer encouraged Congress to add the words because of the communist threat in the world. The did so resulting in the 31 page pledge we have today. The pledge coming from a socialist makes sense. They have the dream of a utopian society, with no God where everyone is equal. That is except the leaders and those who are attached to those in power.

We even have instructions in observing the pledge found in our Flag Code.

Section 4 of the Flag Code states:

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute."

So lets see what that pledge might mean.
It begins with 'I'. That means you, the citizen, is making a pledge.
  1. What is a pledge? A pledge is 'A solemn binding promise to do, give, or refrain from doing something'. What do we learn so far? You make a promise to do something.
  2. Now what do you pledge? Allegiance. Allegiance means ' loyalty, as of a subject to his sovereign or of a citizen to his country'. That means you are pledging your loyalty as a citizen.
  3. To what are you pledging your loyalty? To the flag. A flag is 'a piece of cloth, usually rectangular, of distinctive color and design, used as a symbol, standard, signal, or emblem'. But we're not just pledging to a piece of cloth?
  4. What are we pledging to? The United States of America. Our country founded in 1776 as the first free nation on earth.
  5. What kind of nation is it? The pledge reads on 'and to the Republic for which it stands'. Our nation was founded as a Republic. Each state was independent and the federal government was to act for international security and on issues intra-state.
  6. It further reads 'one nation'. We are to stand together as 'one nation'.
  7. Then it reads 'under God'. We are, whether people like it or not, a nation founded on a belief in one Almighty God. Not a particular religious belief, but a nation under God as witnessed by the writings of our forefathers and the belief in God imbedded into our government for years.
  8. Then we are told it is 'indivisable'. Indivisble means 'incapable of undergoing division'. That means we pledge to not work to divide our nation.
  9. And further it reads 'with liberty'. Liberty means 'the condition of being free from restriction or control. And it means you have the 'the right and power to act, believe, or express oneself in a manner of one's own choosing.
  10. And further again it reads 'and justice'. Justice is 'the principle of moral rightness; equity. And conformity to moral rightness in action or attitude; righteousness.
  11. The pledge finishes with 'for all'. For all means everyone. Every citizen within its borders.
Our pledge as citizens is to personally live with a loyalty to the goverment of the United States, the symbol is its flag. We are futher pledging to the Republic, your state. You pledge to keep the states united. We pledge it is a nation founded under God, it is indivisable and in return there will be liberty and justice for all. Think about that.

The big question? What do we do when we have a government that is not providing a belief in a Republic? A government that does not provide international security for us? A government that does not believe we are one nation under God? A government that does not provide liberty and justice for all? I don't know the answer but I do know the United States of America is being taken over from within.

I'm going to be discussing these and other issues in the days, weeks and months ahead. I'm going to be talking about how we can prepare for what's coming. Trust me, it is coming. And we'll continue to explore what is happening to our great nation and why. Remember, one person can make a difference. YOU. It is time each of us did.
