If Wal-Mart Can Do It Why Not Our Government

This was sent to me by a reader, it is written by her brother Jerry Fisher and makes a lot of sense so thought I would share ...

By now most everyone who watches TV has seen the Wal-Mart commercial that shows Mike, a truck driver talking about the way Wal-Mart saves money and passes it on to their customers. He talks about making sure his truck is fully loaded and about taking the most economical route to get to his stores. In my entire life I would have never thought I would say great job Wal-Mart, but today I have too.

It's not about their commercial but what their commercial shows, says and proves. What their commercial says to me is that they are continually looking for ways to reduce the cost of their products from within. They want to sell and they need us to buy. If their cost of doing business goes to high then they need to raise the cost of their goods, costing everyone who shops there more money. They would rather make sacrifices and implement better business decisions from within then raise the cost of goods supplied to their customers; in fact they look for ways to lower the costs to their customers. If the nation's largest retailer has figured out that smarter business practices and cutting costs equals profit then why has our own Government not figured it out?

This is not about Democrats or Republicans it's about our country. Instead of following the Wal-Mart practice of reducing from within and keeping your costs down, they are following a practice of many failed corporations, add the cost of our doing business to the customers they will continue to pay.

I challenge each reader to look back over the last 20 years and show me when federal jobs did not increase. How many more IRS agents do we need? Actually we need only one, the one willing to look at those in office and hold them accountable. There are approximately 100,000 federal employees on the payroll that are delinquent in their taxes, in total almost 300,000 people that worked or retired from government service who are currently delinquent and receiving benefits. Yet, they choose not to go after these individuals. In fact the Democrats shot down a bill that would require every federal employee delinquent in their taxes to be removed from the payroll. If they were making efforts to get caught up or were in dispute with their taxes they would continue their employment or employment benefits. Why are government employee's exempt from the harassment the average citizen receives? Al Capone might have a few words to say about this, if he were alive. Tax fraud is Fraud and each person should be treated the same.

Maybe I am wrong but when my company is about to tank, I would look at shrinking my costs not increasing them. Having worked for several large corporations first, I would go after all those that owe me money. Second, I would look at each position below me and review their payroll, decrease not increase the numbers. Every company that I have worked for has one, yes I said ONE secretary for each CEO and Director at best, and some Directors share a secretary. How can a large corporation manage with only one Secretary or less for each senior manager and succeed when one representative or mayor of a large city needs 2,4,6,8 plus? How many aids does it take to get your representatives job done? If you are an average citizen it takes zero because you will do it yourself.

Back to Wal-Mart, they saw the problem and reacted by finding ways to not pass their cost of doing business onto their customers. They understand that the key to success is to cut and curb their own internal costs. The government has a different idea. They believe that in increasing federal jobs, increasing our debt, proposing a VAT tax and putting their costs on you. Has the government cut back? When is the last time the government laid someone off? Has your state been looking at new ways to tax you? Maybe I missed something but during these hard times I have not heard a word from the White House about layoffs or cutbacks, only openings. So those of you who have jobs and pay taxes, you are doing the job creation for the country. Instead of a new restaurant or factory in your community you are now the proud owner of an IRS agent.
