So Much for Grand Plans ...

I left my motor home out in IL as I didnt want to drive it home in the winter when I came back in December. Well, I went out to get it this past week and on the way out had hideous weather for a day from mid-Wyoming through mid-Nebraska. Well I was sure its late April no problem on the way home.

Tonight I come to you from beautiful (not) Rawlings, WY not staying in my motor home but in a motel since we're in the middle of a major snow storm. They're forecasting seven to ten inches so we'll see. I'm pulling my vehicle and its taken me all of my sixty-two years to afford this thing so I'm not risking it on these mountains in this weather. And to top it off, I had a minor problem with the coach, not mission critical. I mention it to a guy and he says, "Hey, I know a guy right here in town who works on motor homes. You can take it over."

I said cool and he calls and the guy says he'll be right over, he's not busy. He shows up in an emergency roadside vehicle and first thing he says is, "Can you show me what the problem is?" So I tell him its my hydraulic motor probably. He says, "Can you show me where that motor is?" Then he wanted the manuals and then he was a little too 'large' to fit under the coach ... then, he wanted me to take some wood and drive the coach up on it so he could look underneath. This is after he asked me if I didnt have a dealer somewhere I could call and see what might be wrong.

The topper was he then charged me $50 bucks for the roadside service call which wasnt a roadside call since I wasnt roadside ... interesting day all around and quite a welcome to Rawlings. Our first such experience of the entire trip.

On a more serious note, you all heard about poor GM's latest problems recalling thousands of vehicles. I also read they owe the UAW pension fund back money of like $20 billion. Here is how that plays out. I have a good friend and fellow Vietnam Vet in Montana who was a fighter pilot in Nam and then flew for over thirty years for United Airlines. He was looking forward to a full retirement in a year or two. He is not flying now with their 'bankruptcy' and he lost his pension so he is doing other work to stay afloat.

Now think about that one. United Airlines is still flying. They came out of bankruptcy and creditors got paid. Why wouldnt retirees with pensions get paid first? Where is the governements Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation? It is not nice the things happening in this country ... not nice at all.

It is time to let the bums in Congress and their cohorts in the White House know how we feel. I dont know the details but just saw a clip where Texas Governor Rick Perry is saying the White House is not taking away his states rights, maybe its time they secede from the union? The times they are a changin' and not for the better.
