New Round of Layoffs - I Guess We're Turning Around

Just read this week there has been announced over 80,000 new layoffs. And I read that housing starts are down, unemployment is up ... good thing I dont drink anymore. Our nation is suffering from the worst lack of leadership ever, and thats not just meant for the White House.

In companies everywhere you see it and those of you working, or still working in these companies know what I mean. Just read an article about how a new guy they moved in from Latin America is remaking Pepsi. Now I used to work there and there are a lot of great people in PepsiCo, the parent, but the joke was ... great jobs, no careers. And it was true.

But the new guy is 'remaking' Pepsi and doing it all at once. He is going to 'rebrand' every line, as in Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew you name it, all it once. Now where is his boss to think that is possible? Well she is enamored, according to the article, with the new Pepsi logo. Please check out the old and new. It has the smallest of difference, I mean my wife is a Diet Pepsiholic and she laughed, I had to point out the difference in the logo. But, the article pointed out these two senior leaders reported that their research shows the consumer is happy with the new 'direction'.

Another article reported on the new logo and said the cost was well over a Million dollars to develop. (Please, please look at the old and new) and would cost upwards of ten million dollars to roll out the changes company wide. I can attest from being there the last time they did this and ten mil would be conservative. This is the kind of BS we have leaders now focusing on.

I get to be in contact with lots of Marines from my book Dead Center and get to talk with them about the war in Iraq and Afganistan ... today Marines are given legal briefings by a JAG officer before patrols. Think there might be some hesitation by the inexperienced in combat because of big brother looking over their shoulders. Same thing as Pepsi ... we have no leadership anymore.

Enough already, its a weekend. Enjoy and here is a passing thought, "The major key to your better future is you." Jim Rohn - lets go and make a difference each day.
