The Most Amazing Young Men

I made it back east to DC for the 24th Rolling Thunder POW/MIA rally with 500,000 of my closest friends. My sniper partners from Nam get together there each year. But this year was special, more than any other. We were able to go with an Army Vet who started his own foundation to provide Friday night dinners to veterans who are confined to either the Bethesda Naval Hospital or Walter Reed. He took us over to visit returning Marines at both facilities. I will never be the same again. The spirit and courage of these young men we visited is amazing. We met the young men in this video and they are amazing to say the least. The next time you want to complain think about these young men. The white guy, Tyler Southern is getting married in July. Met his fiance' and she is a wonderful young woman. Will write more later but had to share some of the spirit of these young warriors.

In Between Monday

Been away since Friday AM at my former daughter-in-laws graduation in Great Falls, Montana. Got back late yesterday and am turning around and heading to Spokane for a couple days. Stay with a sniper friend and his wife. Ordered a couple suits down in UT for my daughters wedding in June, planned for Glacier Park? Still snowing up there I think.

On the suits ordered at Mens Warehouse in Murray, UT. Of course I needed them quick since I was leaving town and heading home last month. They were having this two for one deal so the one I needed for the wedding wasn't in stock in my size. I had a great energetic young man, sharp on suits and he said, "No problem" and overnighted them from Dallas for me. Got fitted and had to pick them up on a Saturday night as we were leaving the next day.

I was so impressed when I walked in he said, "I saw you coming and here they are ready to go!" Duly impressed I asked if I should try them on. He told me no, they never make a mistake and so I made one and walked out. My wife also didn't think 'me too smart' but I persisted as the male in the group ... got home and a week later tried them on and I'm not sure they did anything. So my closest store is 4 hours away in Spokane and off I go tomorrow for my real fitting. But I have to say they are making it right in giving me gift cards for my gas over.

Dont know about you but I could probably go another lifetime without hearing anymore about Bin Ladens death. Okay we finally got him, good stuff - now lets move on. Its like if we killed Ho Chi Mihn during the Nam war it would have ended it - Not!

When I was over at MSU - Great Falls for the graduation this weekend when we walked into the building where the reception was being held there were some signs on the doors heading in. One read, "Latex painting in progress". I imagined that must be to warn people of some hazard with latex painting? On the opposite door was a sign which read, "Notce- No latex balloons allowed in the building." At this point I wasnt sure exactly what they meant other than apparently latex is bad so don't bring in balloons - but then why paint with it? That was my irony of the day.

We've all been inundated with news of the killing of Osama Bin Laden. It was a surprise and certainly a good one. And we do have to give the President kudos for making a hard choice to take out one of his Bro's. And all that and the sketchy info coming out about the raid just makes me wonder ...

1. I wonder after seven months of knowing that is where he probably was why he made the decision now?
2. I wonder how worried he really is about The Trumpster?
3. I wonder if he really did take 14 hours to make the final decision to unleach the SEALs?
4. I wonder if there were no guards, as first reported, who they had a firefight with?
5. I wonder how they can drop down ropes from a whirling chopper in the middle of the night, go up three flights of stairs fighting their way and Osama is just going for his gun?
6. I wonder if you or I would wake up if a chopper hovered over our house at 0130?
7. I wonder how they confirmed the DNA, found a Muslim Cleric and buried him all in 24 hours?
8. I wonder why when the Obama Cabinet watched this unfold, they wouldn't know how many SEAL's were on the ground?
9. I wonder if Pakistan didn't know about his whereabouts he didn't have any guards or a plan?
10. I wonder most of all whether the Pakistani's might have given him up? Ummm?

I really don't doubt they got him because I value the integrity of the SEALs. But I do wonder about those things above.

Just a short one on Friday ... I've been reading about this Army Private who leaked critical information to Wikileaks that has resulted in a lot of trouble around the world. That used to be called treason? And then I have to hear about people in leadership whining about the cell this guy is placed in. Give me a break!

Here is a guy when we are at war is leaking information. As for the Wikileaks guy, Julian Assange, he needs to join our Army Private on the gangplank.

And you know the bigger question ... how does an Army Private have the access to such information to leak it in the first place? I talk with Marines today from the Vietnam era who worked with Top Secret clearances and they still won't reveal what they worked on. My wife has a good friend who worked for the FBI for over twenty five years and she will not talk about exactly what she worked on and she is in administration.

I think it is all indicative of our deteriorating society and our lack of real leadership at most levels.

Tales of the Red Tape #8: How Many Hazmat Suits Does It Take to Change a Light Bulb?

Lest anyone tell you that the phase-out of (non-toxic) incandescent light bulbs will be hassle-free (other than hugely expensive), here is the directive from the Environmental Protection Agency for ridding your home of toxic vapor in the event you or a loved one breaks the mercury-laden compact fluorescent (CFL) pushed by the government as superior:

1. Have people and pets leave the room, and avoid the breakage area on the way out.
2. Open a window or door to the outdoors and leave the room for 5 to 10 minutes.
3. Shut off the central forced-air heating/air conditioning system (H&AC), if you have one.
4. Collect materials you will need to clean up the broken bulb:
• Stiff paper or cardboard;
• Sticky tape (e.g., duct tape);
• Damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes (for hard surfaces);
• Glass jar with a metal lid (such as a canning jar) or a sealable plastic bag(s)

5. Carefully scoop up glass fragments and powder using stiff paper or cardboard and place debris and paper/cardboard in a glass jar with a metal lid. If a glass jar is not available, use a sealable plastic bag. (NOTE: Since a plastic bag will not prevent the mercury vapor from escaping, remove the plastic bag(s) from the home after cleanup.)

6. Use sticky tape, such as duct tape, to pick up any remaining small glass fragments and powder. Place the used tape in the glass jar or plastic bag.

7. Wipe the area clean with damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes. Place the towels in the glass jar or plastic bag.
8. Vacuuming of hard surfaces during cleanup is not recommended unless broken glass remains after all other cleanup steps have been taken. (NOTE: It is possible that vacuuming could spread mercury-containing powder or mercury vapor, although available information on this problem is limited.) If vacuuming is needed to ensure removal of all broken glass, keep the following tips in mind: 1) Keep a window or door to the outdoors open; 2) Vacuum the area where the bulb was broken using the vacuum hose, if available; and 3) Remove the vacuum bag (or empty and wipe the canister) and seal the bag/vacuum debris, and any materials used to clean the vacuum, in a plastic bag.

9. Promptly place all bulb debris and cleanup materials, including vacuum cleaner bags, outdoors in a trash container or protected area until materials can be disposed of properly.

10. Check with your local or state government about disposal requirements in your area. Some states and communities require fluorescent bulbs (broken or unbroken) be taken to a local recycling center.

11. Wash your hands with soap and water after disposing of the jars or plastic bags containing bulb debris and cleanup materials.

12. Continue to air out the room where the bulb was broken and leave the AC system shut off, as practical, for several hours.

13. The next several times you vacuum the rug or carpet, shut off the AC system if you have one, close the doors to other rooms, and open a window or door to the outside before vacuuming. Change the vacuum bag after each use in this area.

14. After vacuuming is completed, keep the H&AC system shut off and the window or door to the outside open, as practical, for several hours.

To avoid breaking a bulb, follow these general practices:

1. Always switch off and allow a working CFL bulb to cool before handling.
2. Always handle CFL bulbs carefully to avoid breakage:
a. If possible, screw/unscrew the CFL by holding the plastic or ceramic base, not the glass tubing;
b. Gently screw in the CFL until snug. Do not over-tighten;
c. Never forcefully twist the glass tubing.
3. Consider not using CFLs in lamps that can be easily knocked over, in unprotected light fixtures, or in lamps that are incompatible with the spiral or folded shape of many CFLs.
4. Do not use CFL bulbs in locations where they can easily be broken, such as play spaces.
5. Use CFL bulbs that have a glass or plastic cover over the spiral or folded glass tube, if available. These types of bulbs look more like incandescent bulbs and may be more durable if dropped.
6. Consider using a drop cloth (e.g., plastic sheet or beach towel) when changing a fluorescent light bulb in case a breakage should occur. The drop cloth will help prevent mercury contamination of nearby surfaces and can be bundled with the bulb debris for disposal.
7. There’s a much simpler remedy, of course: Repeal the phase-out of Thomas Edison’s gift to mankind.

I've been trying to focus on other things that this charade in DC but last night when I heard on the news that Hussien had an Immigration Summit in the Cabinet Room and invited mostly his cronies from his days as a community organizer, then Trumpka from the AFL-CIO and Chertoff, the former Head of Homeland Security ... not the present ditz - it is clear he could care less what anyone thinks in America.

The guy didn't invite one Governor, not one. Think about it. Who has the problem? The states not the Fed's ... didn't invite Texas, New Mexico, Arizona ... oh, yea, he invited The Guvernator, the former Governor of California. This guy is the stereotypical empty suit who can't take the heat from any disagreement.

Think about that ... watch this video talking about how our government is drowning in debt (not the deficit they keep talking about, but the debt. Then think about how The Donald talks straight, no political correctness and what is there to be perplexed about? I mean forget whether or not you agree with Donald, you at least know where he stands. Brings you back to the days of Jesse when he took Minnesota. The American people long for straight talk and be drowning in BS!

Why We're Picking Up Speed Going Down the Tube

I'm just getting back on here after being away from home so long. The of course CenturyLink didnt have my Internet on so that took another four days of waiting - and during that time had lots of thoughts, mostly about our illustrious leadership in DC - not only the disgrace, our Prez, but Congress with a handful of exceptions.

I'm sure most agree with me that what is going on with budget negotiations is nothing more than charades at our expense. The $38B the Repub's are jumping up and down about saving is like a 1% cut. So think of it as your household budget. Let's say you spend $40,000 in a year for your annual budget. You'd be spending a whopping $400 this year. Such nonsense I can't take it anymore. Then of course we find out that those aren't real cuts. They are accounting magic taking money from other places.

Then the Prez gives a droning speech smeared with his loathing for the common man and then makes a personal attack on Rep Ryan whoever he is ... at least he had a detailed plan. It was interesting when Obamanation gave his pitiful speech he said the current cuts would save $750B over the next ten years ... umm, $38.5B x 10 years isn't nearly $750B? Funny math I guess like all of them.

I'd move to the woods and hang it up but I already moved to Montana - it's still great and our Governor stood up to the Fed's of the wolves issue and won. Good for you Governor Schweitzer.

URGENT: Contact Your Congressman On the Budget

Write your Congressman and insist that they take a payday off the entire time there is no budget. And while you are at it the White House as well. This is the absolute worst led Congress and Nation that we have ever had. They should all be thrown out for not doing their jobs!

What Really Are the Beliefs of Obamanation? And Should We Be Concerned?

I'm going to hit 65 this summer and have to say in my lifetime I haven't seen anything like our current Presidency. I lived through both Kennedy's going down, Johnson checking out and Nixon flipping out but nothing like the first years of this guy. Just think about these things ...

1. Even under the Freedom of Information Act this guy releases nothing about his past in spit of the fact that he ran on a platform of transparency even saying this would be the most transparent, bi-partisan organization ever.

2. He was a 20 year member of Reverend Wrights radical church in Chicago and disowned him and then proclaimed he didn't know he was preaching such things. Now if he really went there for 20 years he would know; or, if he just said he went and didn't he wouldn't know but he would be a liar.

3. After doing a little research I learned that he has held two prayers fest's with Muslims and cancelled the annual National Day of Prayer. Not only that but Reverend Franklin Graham was supposed to lead the event and was dis-invited by the Pentagon shortly before it was cancelled and told that he could not lead it because of his statements against Muslims just after 9-11. When there was a public furor over the cancellation the anointed one flew to visit Reverend Billy Graham at his home. In walks son Franklin who asks, "could you reconsider cancelling me from leading the event?" The anointed one said he would check into it and the Grahams never heard a word.

4. When asked at a staged event by a young school girl "What do you believe Jesus is?", the anointed one said, "I believe he is a wise man, an intermediary between us and God, a respected leader ... not mention of anything Christian at all. In fact I just finished reading The Islamic Anti-Christ and it outlines the Islamic belief in Christ and darned if it doesn't match nearly word for word of our excuse for a leader.

Now I've never been a conspiracy theorist but we have some serious problems happening all around us. But lets say this has nothing to do with religion. Lets just not consider that in thinking about this problem. Lets look at the other implications in the notes above ...

1. What good reason would anyone have for withholding their birth certificate and college information from the public being a very public person? Think about it.

2. Either he is stupid for not knowing what his 20 year Pastor preached. Or, he was sleeping? Or he is a liar.

3. He meets with Muslims for prayer and cancels our National Day of Prayer that Presidents have been doing for years. He has the Pentagon, who has nothing to do with a National Day of Prayer, cancel the leadership of one of the most respected religious families in America. What good reason do you see in this apparent contradiction?

4. If he really spent 20 years in a 'christian' church in Chicago would he turn his back on all of it. Is he a liar or just playing us all for his agenda?

We are headed down a path of disaster by an imposter. We need to let our elected officials know we need answers. We need to be heard before it is too late.

Let Me Get This Straight

A guy in Florida head of some church burn the Quran and they kill people in Afghanistan. Now that is one peaceful religion. They attack the UN building, take the weapons out of the hands of the UN soldiers in place to protect it (You gotta think about that one?) and kill them with their own guns.

We hear so much today about the rights of Muslims, what about the rights here in America. The Supreme Court has said that it is okay to burn a Bible and to burn our flag so why not the Quran? Now don't get me wrong, I don't think that guy in Florida should be burning Qurans anymore than a Bible, but it is legal.

The point is we hear more and more about how we must accept the Islamic religion in our country. Why? Here is a religion that puts women down (where is the National Organization of Women when we need them?), and we believe - last time I checked - in separation of church and state (where is the ACLU when we need them?).

Think about this freedom of religion issue alongside the separation of church and state. Islam is a religion that has as part of it Islamic Law. Protestants and Catholics don't claim their own laws. What on earth would happen if a religion did claim their own law? Oh my heck, Waco. The Branch Davidian's had their own laws and a few guns and preached against the United States and nothing happ, oh yea, something did happen. We raided them killing most of their followers. How is Islam different?

As a group Islam preaches violence. They preach the annihalialtion of an entire race. Oh yea, that's called a hate crime here in this country. I remain baffled as to why our leaders fear these people so much. As Mr. Trump said the other night quoting I believe President Roosevelt ..."We have nothing to fear except fear itself".

It is time to call a spade a spade and an enemy an enemy. If there are moderate Muslims then now is the time to speak out and stand up for your adopted country or, well, leave it. Let your Congressman and Senator know it is time for a change ... stop the nonsense or become the change.

Our Government May Shutdown? I Have an Idea

I've been watching with interest the insane story of the people in Congress pretending to be our leaders. It is so amazing to me for adults, educated adults, elected officials even talking about such a deal, let alone going on TV blaming one another.

On the one had we have the Great Chuck Schumer caught with his microphone down being recorded planning how to blame the shut down on the Republicans. Then you have a new Republican Representative on there talking about how it might be a good thing ... then you have Vice President Biden (its hard to write that) who proclaimed he was the mediator then left town, well, he actually left the country.

And of course Obamanation is nowhere to be found and its his budget they're talking about. We better cut the budget before we are a wholly owned subsidiary of China. So what if they do actually not reach agreement and 'shut down' our government. Here's an idea you should write your representatives and senators about.

1. You shut down the government the first thing that is cut is your pay and staff support costs. End of sentence. You don't pass the bill, whatever you come to agreement on ... Representatives, Senators and the President and their staffs are the first to not be paid and will not be paid until a bill is passed. Very simple.

2. If the problem is not solved in one week - the next to be unpaid are all Heads of Departments and their staffs. Top down, trickle down shut down.

3. If the problem isn't solved in one month - trickle down one more time and so on ... not to the people, to the leaders.

Pass it along to your friends and lets write our government representatives and tell them this is what we expect.

Unclear and Waving in the Breeze Like Our Flag

Last night Obamanation addressed the nation, a tad late but he addressed the nation. And, he had nothing new to say. Think about these few things ...

1. The Prez stated that our goal is not to take out the nut job leading Libya. Then this morning I hear Ms Clinton speaking on behalf of the US saying, "We are negotiating to allow the nut job to move to a country that will not prosecute him."

2. The Prez stated that he was handing all operations over to NATO and the US was no longer leading the mission in Libya. Then I check up on it and see that the head of NATO is a US General and we provide over half of all operational support.

3. The Prez said it was for humanitarian reasons. But we aren't helping the 'youth' revolting in Iraq, in Yemen, in Bahrain; in Syria; nor did we help those in Egypt or Tunisia.

Unclear I think would be a mild term to use for our leadership at the present time. And as of yesterday I read that we have spent $1 billion dollars on the Libyan intervention. Another interesting tidbit is the French flew the first missions into Libya and then have been absent as the Brits and the Americans carry on.

Remember back to Bush I when he took Kuwait back for its citizens (and our oil of course). He put together a coalition that paid for it. I remember even Japan gave money for the war. In this excursion the Arab League was the first to 'authorize' a no fly zone ... then they vanished. I learned that 80% of Libyan oil goes to China. Ever wonder why the Arabs or China aren't paying for some of the costs?

I think we have a leader running us off the track into the 'new world order' he talks about. You see, he didn't ask the US Congress for permission to commit our troops. He waited for the United Nations ... a clue and a big red flag folks.

Is Obamanation Really that Bad at Foreign Policy, or is Something More Sinister at Work

I've been watching this guy now for his first two years and he starts by denouncing the very government he is elected to govern. He goes around the world apologizing for America. Then he announces to our enemies in Iraq that we will exit on such and such a date. Made me wonder?

Then of course he famous political announcement of getting out of Gitmo and its still here. And then there was the appointment of General McCrystal, his main man who he fires for not agreeing with him. McCrystal knew what he was doing when he did that Rolling Stones interview. We're still in Afghanistan with our troops hands tied behind their backs.

But the real eye opener has been his most recent charade in Libya. That is an obvious one to figure out just what his foreign policy is ... or is it? If you look closely, Obamanation was all for the Tunisia revolt and ecstatic at the overthrow of Mubarek in Egypt but when it came to Libya, well, he didn't utter a word. He even said he didn't have time to comment on the Libyan situation. He did have time to fill out his brackets for March Madness however.

Then, after no comment, all of a sudden he is sending troops ... reluctantly. You see for the first time in written history the French actually took the lead. Apparently he didn't recall or honor the fact that we are part of NATO and they had decided to support the 'rebels'. And the Arab League was the first to come to the rescue of the 'rebels' by voting for a no fly zone, but failed to offer up any planes. So Ms. Clinton is working hard on the UN and Russia and China abstain and all of a sudden we are on the table to provide cover fire and more.

I don't think that is the real story. If you were genuinely going to help the 'rebels' you would have done it when they had all the country except Tripoli, the Capital city. You wouldn't wait until they were about to be ground up by a guy who has been doing that his entire time in leadership. So what else could be going on with our main man on vacation in South America?

Here are a few things I think we should consider ...

1. Did you ever here of Tunisia causing any problems in the Middle East? I don't think so and Obamanation thought that was the overthrow by the 'young' was a good thing.

2. Do you realize that of all the Arab nations in the world the one that recognized Israel and had a Peace Agreement that they honored for over thirty years was Egypt. Yes it was Egypt and while Mubarek might not have been a great guy Egypt was a vacation destination, they had peace and were a positive influence on the masses. And our Mr. Obamanation was for the overthrow of that government. Ummm?

3. Libya has been a problem for decades. Ghadaffi didn't settle down until President Reagen send a couple jets with a few big ones for his Palace and after losing one of his many wives and a couple kids did he settle down with us. So in this latest crisis we have Mr. Obamanation not saying a word as the 'rebels' approached Tripoli and the Arab League voted for a no-fly zone did he finally come out and 'demand' he leave office. Umm?

4. So America ends up involved in our third little war in the Middle East and Obamanation cannot wait to get out of there after he agreed to put us in there. Why? I think perhaps because he just got pushed into this mess because the establishment took over. We are not going to let the oil stop. If we were in these things to take out a nasty Dictator who committed genocide then we would have stopped the debacle in Rwanda, and many more. No, I think our main man got pushed into this and is now back peddling like he is about to go over a waterfall.

5. I think Obamanation didn't support the overthrow of Ghaddafi because that isn't in the best interest of the Arab world. It was in the best interest in the Arab world that Egypt fall. Tunisia is just a plus. And the others that follow are not some youth revolution driven by Twitter and Facebook, they are just tools, as are the youth.

Pay close attention to what is happening ... it does not bode well for America. We are led by a man who truly is a wolf in sheep's clothes or maybe a Muslim in American clothes. He is a man leading us who the masses voted in who has yet to provide a certified birth certificate, or has he released any of his college transcripts or the information on his scholarships and student loans and somehow blocks the Freedom of Information act allowing ordinary citizens to see into his life. So much for his pledge to have the most transparent administration in history.

Something more significant is going on ... stay tuned and be prepared for a financial crisis like we haven't see before.

Random Thoughts on Life the Past Two Weeks

Hard to imagine just how fast time flies and how fast things change and still remain the same.

1. The Japanese situation is so sad, as was Haiti, Indonesia et all and any disaster like those. Yet we as a people have donated on fifth to the Japanese at this point in the crisis than we did in Haiti? The news media speculates its because the Japanese are so self sufficient. I guess punishing people for self reliance is a good thing? I could think of a couple more reasons.

2. Here in this country out and about retail shopping is sure a trip. I wrote on here before about Borders about to go out of business and of course they have recently filed bankruptcy. I went in to one of their stores closing here in Vegas the other day. It was in total disarray, all the good books had been shipped to other stores so their 'close out' was literally a close out, junk stuff. I was looking around and needed to use the bathroom. I'd been there before and was sure they had one. No signs anywhere. I ask the front counter where the rest room was and they said, "Its closed". I said, "You closed the rest room before you closed the store?" No one cared.

3. On another trip to get some pictures copied from my flash drive I stopped by Office Depot. They did excellent on the pictures but as I waited, it was right by the door going out of the store and none, zero, nada of the registers were manned. No one there to pay. They were taking money in the back of the store for some reason and people leaving were setting off the alarm at the door. Then they would stand there looking around and no one came, looked up, or cared. It just kept happening so I just started waving them through, telling them 'not to worry' and so it goes.

4. Had to run out to Wal-Mart last night to pick up a couple of things and wanted to go quick so I went to the one just outside the base. Of course that Wal-Mart is off limits to base personnel due to the amount of attempted robberies of women during daylight hours. It was the first place in years my wife and I had witnessed a take down other than on Cops. We've seen three there. Had a guy shot and killed off his bike last year when we were here. But I was in a hurry so I went in and got my stuff and left. While in there it was unmistakable that they were casting for the Jerry Springer Show and worse. The parking lot cop was sitting in his car talking to someone in the way far end of the parking lot the whole while I was in there. When I left I took a cut around the side and back to hit the street I wanted. Passed a lady security officer (wasn't that nice a respectful) and she was the size of Momma Cass or John Candy walking along on her cell phone. I could see that Wal-Mart is really serious about safety outside.

Well, unfortunately we are the generation not leaving the US of A better than we found it. Sad all around.

In the 60's when Robert Kennedy was US Attorney General he wrote a book about the Teamsters Union and his prosecution of Jimmy Hoffa. His book was quite interesting, especially in light of today's battles begun in Wisconsin. But that is not the 'enemy within' that I am writing about.

The new 'enemy within' is what the media calls 'moderate Muslims'. I just finished an outstanding book that was a thorough study and comparison of the Bible and Islam. According to Bismarck's best-known maxim on Europe's most troublesome region, the Balkans are not worth the bones of a single Pomeranian grenadier. Americans could be forgiven for harboring similar sentiments after the murder of two U.S. airmen in Germany by a Kosovar Muslim.

Remember Kosovo? Me neither. But it was big at the time, launched by Bill Clinton in the wake of his Monica difficulties: Make war, not love, as the boomers advise. So Clinton did — and without any pesky U.N. resolutions, or even the pretense of seeking them.

Instead, he and Tony Blair and even Jacques Chirac just cried "Bombs away!" and got on with it. And the left didn't mind at all — because, for a modern western nation, war is only legitimate if you have no conceivable national interest in whatever war you're waging.

Unlike Iraq and all its supposed "blood for oil," in Kosovo no one remembers why we went in, what the hell the point of it was, or which side were the good guys. (Answer: Neither.) The principal rationale advanced by Clinton and Blair was that there was no rationale. This was what they called "liberal interventionism", which boils down to: The fact that we have no reason to get into it justifies our getting into it.

A decade on, Kosovo is a sorta sovereign state, and in Frankfurt a young airport employee is so grateful for what America did for his people that he guns down U.S. servicemen while yelling "Allahu akbar!"

The strange shrunken spectator who serves as President of the United States, offering what he called "a few words about the tragic event that took place," announced that he was "saddened," and expressed his "gratitude for the service of those who were lost" and would "spare no effort" to "work with the German authorities" but it was a "stark reminder" of the "extraordinary sacrifices that our men and women in uniform are making . . ."

The passivity of these remarks is very telling. Men and women "in uniform" (which it's not clear these airmen were even wearing) understand they may be called upon to make "extraordinary sacrifices" in battle. They do not expect to be "lost" on the shuttle bus at the hands of a civilian employee at a passenger air terminal in an allied nation.

But then I don't suppose their comrades expected to be "lost" at the hands of an army major at Fort Hood, to cite the last "tragic event" that "took place" — which seems to be the president's preferred euphemism for a guy opening fire while screaming "Allahu akbar!"

I walked down the street in Barcelona , and suddenly discovered a
terrible truth - Europe died in Auschwitz ... We killed six million
Jews and replaced them with 20 million Muslims. In Auschwitz we burned
a culture, thought, creativity, talent. We destroyed the chosen
people, truly chosen, because they produced great and wonderful
people who changed the world.

The contribution of this people is felt in all areas of life: science,
art, international trade, and above all, as the conscience of the
world. These are the people we burned.

And under the pretence of tolerance, and because we wanted to prove to
ourselves that we were cured of the disease of racism, we opened our
gates to 20 million Muslims, who brought us stupidity and ignorance,
religious extremism and lack of tolerance, crime and poverty, due to
an unwillingness to work and support their families with pride.

They have blown up our trains and turned our beautiful Spanish cities
into the third world, drowning in filth and crime.

Shut up in the apartments they receive free from the government, they
plan the murder and destruction of their naive hosts.

And thus, in our misery, we have exchanged culture for fanatical
hatred, creative skill for destructive skill, intelligence for
backwardness and superstition.

We have exchanged the pursuit of peace of the Jews of Europe and their
talent for a better future for their children, their determined
clinging to life because life is holy, for those who pursue death, for
people consumed by the desire for death for themselves and others, for
our children and theirs.

What a terrible mistake was made by miserable Europe ...

The Jews are NOT promoting brain washing children in military training

General Eisenhower Warned Us It is a matter of history that when the
Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight Eisenhower,
found the victims of the death camps he ordered all possible
photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding
villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the

Now We'll have Mexican Trucks Running Back and Forth Across the Border

Well our Prez just signed a deal with Calderone in Mexico to allow Mexican trucks to cross the border and run into and through the US. What a great deal eh? The Canadians are one thing since, well, they speak English, they are part of the solution and not the problem and of course they aren't flooding our border with people.

This just isn't an Obamanation thing either. I don't remember it was either Bush I or Clinton, doesn't matter, but they signed the NAFTA agreement that sent tons of jobs to cheap Mexican factories across the border. That agreement has also permitted Mexico to charge us massive tariff's as a penalty for not allowing their trucks across. The reason we didn't allow them across is because if you've ever seen a Mexican tractor trailer they just aren't quite up to our safety standards and, their drivers don't exactly meet our DOT driving standards.

They're Surprised When the Sun Comes Up

Did you ever know anyone who is surprised by the same thing every time it happens? Well we have a lot of companies today that are the same way. Toy R Us used to be one of the best companies around. I remember when my kids were young we'd go there and service and quality was their watchword. Today, they're in bankruptcy.

Over the holidays my wife and daughter tried and tried to buy things there on sale and went in and they either didn't have it or it was some kind of bait and switch. I was out the other day and walked in Toy R Us to use a restroom. First of its a one ply kind of restroom filthy and in disarray. So I walked through the store and it is now filled not with quality goods but junk. Looks like KB Toys used to look before they went belly up. I am sure the Internet has something to do with their demise but basic blocking and tackling did the rest ... and lack of management and leadership.

This morning I read that Borders Book Stores has filed for bankruptcy. I predicted this to my wife about a year and a half ago. Why? I'm a book store fanatic and am in them weekly wherever I am. Borders has been going down hill for some time. First iTunes et all ate into their music business. It used to have a great music section with headphones to listen to the music before buying it. Then none of the headphones worked and now they're down to a small music section in disarray.

The next thing I noticed is the shelves. You can't find anything because they must have a corporate office dictating how many titles are carried and the local staff just stuffs the shelves to where you can't read a thing. Its like going to the library with no help or categorization. Its really sad.

The people suffer who work at these businesses and its usually blamed on the economy rather than those at the top who drove the bus in the ditch.

I walked in a Borders in south Salt Lake and the line was huge and my only question was how many points was on my Borders account. I went to the service desk and asked a guy looking something up on the computer if he could help with my points. He didn't hesitate in saying, "No, I'm busy." I said, "Well its a simple question, look over there the lines are huge." He said, "They are here too". I was the only one standing there.

And of course knowing they were in financial trouble they invested millions into their own eBook Reader and that market was long identified and moving away from where they were. The hockey great Wayne Gretzgy once said once said when asked what made him special, "I skate where the puck will be". These companies are skating where the puck was two plays ago. And there are so many like them.

Put Barnes & Noble on your bankruptcy watch list because they're chasing the puck one play behind and investing millions in their own eBook reader when the future is obviously in iPads and tablet devices but not proprietary readers. I am amazed that so many once great companies are surprised by the changing market instead of having the guts to lead. Its always a leadership problem.

The TSA is on the Job

I recently made a trip from Vegas to the east coast. Flew into Dulles. With all my medical problems this is my first flying for eighteen months. And while it wasn't exactly as probing as some have reported, it was certainly a joke, just as it has been for a decade now. We're all subjected to nonsense while any real terrorist could walk right through it.

I was checking in at the Las Vegas Airport and they have the new, fancy scanners you step into and raise your arms, stand of the feet inside the phone booth looking machine and get scanned. The new deal for me was now you must take everything from your pockets and hold it in your hands, over your head.

So I put everything I can think of in my little plastic pale and wearing my cargo pants I step into the booth. I step out the other side and the young man says, "Sir, do you have anything else in your pockets?" I kind of look around and say, "All I got is what's in my hands." Which kind of ticks of the young man. He says, "SIR, do you have anything else at all in your pockets?" At this I put my hands down and find a Three Musketeers bar in my left pocket. "I thought so!" said the young TSA agent.

Of course I pointed out that it was indeed a Three Musketeers bar I'd just bought. Undaunted he grabbed it and looked it over and said, "Sir, we're going to have to run this through the X-ray machine." I said, "You're kidding, right?" Well, he wasn't kidding and instructed me to go back through, place it in a small dish and reenter the phone booth.

I did as told, not a major inconvenience I guess. I passed muster this time and he waved me through with a big smile, sure he was saving his country, or at least doing his job. I got my things together and walked on to my plane with the bullet I wear around my neck and the body bug strapped to my arm that wasn't detected and feeling, well, no better about our national security.

According to a major survey conducted last year by the Pew Research Center, adults in Egypt don't crave Western-style democracy, as pundits have blithely trumpeted throughout coverage of the unrest.
Far from it, the vast majority of them want a larger role for Islam in government. This includes making barbaric punishments, such as stoning adulterers and executing apostates, the law of their country. With the ouster of their secular, pro-American leader, they may get their wish.
Among highlights from the Pew poll:
1.     • 49% of Egyptians say Islam plays only a "small role" in public affairs under President Hosni Mubarak, while 95% prefer the religion play a "large role in politics."
2.     • 84% favor the death penalty for people who leave the Muslim faith.
3.     • 82% support stoning adulterers.
4.     • 77% think thieves should have their hands cut off.
5.     • 54% support a law segregating women from men in the workplace.
6.     • 54% believe suicide bombings that kill civilians can be justified.
7.     • Nearly half support the terrorist group Hamas.
8.     • 30% have a favorable opinion of Hezbollah.
9.     • 20% maintain positive views of al-Qaida and Osama bin Laden.
10.                        • 82% of Egyptians dislike the U.S. — the highest unfavorable rating among the 18 Muslim nations Pew surveyed.
This empirical evidence refutes the sympathetic narrative broadcast as a continuous loop in the media over the past fortnight. Even after getting beat up by anti-American mobs, CNN's Anderson Cooper portrayed rioters as largely secular yuppies yearning for modernity and the triumph of human rights over martial law.
He and other media elite have it exactly backwards: Egyptians are revolting against Western-style democracy. The Pew poll reveals they do not, in fact, value our principles of individual freedoms, human rights and separation of religion and state.
It is plain they do not want what we want. They want an Islamic theocracy.
And it's highly irresponsible for pundits to assume they want what we do. This is serious business, and we need to deal with facts and reality on the ground and not project our values to make ourselves feel good. The media fatuously whipped up support for a "revolution" at odds with our values and interests.
Now, with a U.S. ally expected to step down, (He did stepped down) the damage may already be done. The well-organized Muslim Brotherhood, previously outlawed by Mubarak, is in the best position to take advantage of the prevailing sentiment recorded by Pew.

Obamanation Needs a New Speech Writer (or two)

In spite of the woeful state of education in many areas of the country, there are still reasons to be encouraged. President Obama outlined one such example in his State of the Union speech last week:

When President Barack Obama spotlighted a successful school in his State of the Union speech, he picked Bruce Randolph School in Denver.
“Take a school like Bruce Randolph in Denver,” the president said. “Three years ago, it was rated one of the worst schools in Colorado. Last May, 97 percent of seniors received their diploma.”

Wow, that’s an impressive turnaround. How did they go from bad to great? Well, that part of the story ended up on the cutting room floor during the SOTU editing process, for obvious reasons:

Bruce Randolph was a middle school when it opened in 2002. In 2007, Denver Public Schools gave Bruce Randolph School permission to operate autonomously. It was the first school in the state to be granted autonomy from district and union rules.
Each teacher then had to reapply for his or her job. A published report said only six teachers remained.

When the devil is in the details, simply ignore the details.

Be Careful When You Give to Charities ...

We're always being pushed and shoved and raised to give to charities. And I'd have to say that it should be and often is a good thing. Like if you happen to give to the Martha Stewart Omnimedia Foundation the overhead is only .3 of 1% that means that for every dollar you give 99.7 cents goes to the actual charity. Which in this case is the St. Jude's Research Hospital. Or Alec Baldwins Foundation which funds the homeless Haitian earthquake victims which receives 99.4 cents for every dollar given. Good stuff.

Now let's check the majority of charities and how they fair. Oprah's Angel network passes along just 63 cent of each dollar received, a little heavy on expenses and she is shutting it down. Good for her. She could learn from Martha. And then Rosie O'Donnell's For All Kids Foundation passes along a whopping 36 cents on the dollar. No report of her shutting her's down.

But these two are exceeded by the Truman Capote Literary Trust ... they pass on a mere 17 cents on the dollar. Then our favorite people Michael Moore ... his Center for Alternative Media and Culture passes along 55 cents on the dollar with the funds biggest expense 'storage'. But the winner, er loser, of all is the Desert Classic Charities, started and run until his death by none other than Bob Hope ... they spent $4.77 for every dollar they received ... funding purses for pro golfers to come to the classic (they used to donate their visit but today's golfers must be paid to play in charities). Great work if you can get it.

And don't think you're home free with the largest forced charity in the world, United Way. Last I read it was only about 50 cents on the dollar. The American Red Cross has a CEO raking in $500 grand a year and the Salvation Army isn't much better. Sad state of affairs when accountability takes a back seat to opportunity.

I mentioned awhile back going in for cancer treatment. I had five weeks of radiation scheduled at Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake. Wonderful people (I'll write more about them later). But after three and a half weeks of treatment my Oncologist was moved to take my case to their Senior Pathologist an expert in Myeloma who took a look and said I was good to go. This was a great Christmas present since it happened the day before Christmas Eve. To me a miracle, I'll claim it.

Tomorrow is the day here in America we set aside long ago for the giving of thanks for all the blessings we have received in the past year. I'm thankful to my God and His Son, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am thankful for my years in the United States Marines and for my wonderful wife of 42 years and counting.

Of course my family comes next, my children Trevor, Cortney and Whitney and our four grandchildren. Family is everything. I'm grateful for all the places I've been blessed to work and the friends I've made along the way. I'm thankful to all my friends who I know well and who I know very little who prayed for me along the last fifteen months of my six operations.

I'm thankful to be born in America and to have had the privilege to fight to keep it free. I'm thankful our hapless leaders of the past few decades haven't completely destroyed it yet. I'm thankful that Obamanation hasn't been able to take us further into socialism just yet. I am thankful for Allies like England and Canada who stand at our side during thick and thin ... and every day I am thankful to be standing on the right side of the grass.

I wish you all the best life has to offer and pray we may stand together for the rights and freedoms we have enjoyed for over two centuries and stand against all enemies together!

With Christmas just around the corner we have been in Utah for my continuing VA fascination ... found out I have cancer. Don't know the type just yet, tumor settled on the temple and there are lots of moving parts going through there so this should be interesting.

But in our travels my wife and daughter have been hard at work gathering Christmas presents to stay ahead of the game. They were waiting on Sunday to get the sales and coupons in the paper. They couldn't wait to get to Michael's the craft super store. Twice they were hit with holding a coupon, checking out and being told - 'well, that particular item isn't covered by the sales coupon'. Sad, that as good a store as it is they play these games. And the employees are in the middle.

Then it went from bad to worse when they went to the once high flyer Toys-R-Us. They'll probably give Michael's another shot but not Toys-R-Us. They have items on sale, marked and when you get to the register the scanner says not so. My wife has been with me too long and demands to see the Manager. Of course as empowered as these companies claim their management to be they can't change or override the computer, 'No Ma'am, I'm sorry but that isn't on sale. If you would have looked at the little tag underneath you would have seen that the sale doesn't apply to this item.' They tried it twice wanting particular items and the second time it's over, they say never again.

You wonder why companies such as Toys-R-Us would do this even though I believe they are trying to come out of bankruptcy. We hear so much about the economy today and it is awful, but think about it ... why don't companies like this understand the competitive environment and act accordingly.

On the way home from Salt Lake we stopped for the night as we usually do with me on the injured reserve list at Idaho Falls. We stay at Candlewood Suites, a Holiday Inn property. Now here are folks who 'get it'. The value is there for the price, the staff is friendly and go out of the way to help you and the place is clean, new and I love it. Stay there every time, no questions asked.

Its like the one I mentioned awhile back when in Salt Lake on another trip. We were eating at Frontier Pies I believe and I ordered a steak. It came to me so bad when I tried cutting it, it just rolled back and forth under the knife. When the excited young waiter of ours came by and asked how things were I told him of my problem cutting this awful steak. He excitedly, with smile glowing said, "Would you like me to bring you another knife?"

People in business these days better understand the competition and act accordingly - the consumers are talking and voting with their dollars.

UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS FACTS

BIRTH OF THE UNITED STATES MARINES:
The legacy of the United States Marine Corps was born on November 10, 1775, when Congress commissioned Robert Mullan, the proprietor of Tun Tavern, located on Philadelphia's historic waterfront to raise the first two battalions of Marines, under the leadership of Samuel Nicholas, the first appointed Commandant of the Continental Marines. The U.S. Marines have been thefirst branch of the armed forces to serve in every war since that day, and have mounted over 300 assaults on foreign shores, from the arctic to the tropics.

ROOTS OF THE U.S. MARINES:
The United States Marine Corps can trace its heritage to the British Royal Marines. Although the current ranks of the Royal Marines number quite small compared to today's US Marines (7,000 vs. 175,000), both Corps of Marines have stood side by side in conflicts around the globe and maintain their close ties.

Both Corps of Marines frequently have liaison officers on exchange with each other. The USMC emblem was loosely modeled from the Royal Marines. Neither Corps' emblems incorporates a shield signifying defense, since Marines prefer to be on the offensive and attack the enemy.

During the war of 1812 with England, the British burned nearly every public building in Washington, D.C. (including the White House and the Capital). The Marine Barracks were spared the burning out of respect.

ANCIENT MARINES:
The first documented use of marines as a class of soldier in a standing army belongs to the Greeks and Romans. Themistocles, leader of the Athenians, issued a decree that his navy "enlist Marines,twenty to a ship" to turn back a Persian attack. Rome had special legions of "Milites Classiarri" or "soldiers of the fleet". Roman Marines served through out the remainder of the empire's life, not only at sea but also on land.

CONFEDERATE MARINES:
On 16 March 1861, The Congress of the Confederate States of America established the Confederate States Marine Corps. On 23 May 1861, Col. Lloyd J. Beall, a West Point graduate who resigned his U.S. Army commission to "go south," was appointed as the Colonel-Commandant. Col. Beall served as Colonel-Commandant of the Confederate States Marine Corps until the end of the American Civil War in 1865.

SEMPER FIDELIS:
The Marine Corps adopted Semper Fidelis as its official motto in 1883 (Semper Fidelis is also the title of the official musical March of the Marine Corps). Translated from Latin, Semper Fidelis means "Always Faithful." U.S. Marines use an abbreviated verbal version, "Semper Fi," to voice loyalty and commitment to their Marine comrades-in-arms.

Previous mottos of the Marine Corps were:
(1) "To the Shores of Tripoli," adopted in 1805.
(2) "Fortitude," adopted in 1812.
(3) "From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli," adopted in 1848.
(4) "By Sea and by Land," adopted in the 1850's.

ONCE A MARINE, ALWAYS A MARINE:
Once a Marine, Always a Marine: This truism was adopted as the official motto of the Marine Corps League. The origin of the statement is credited to a gung-ho Marine Corps Master Sergeant, Paul Woyshner. During a barroom argument he shouted, "Once a Marine, always a Marine!" MSgt. Woyshner was right. Once the title "U.S. Marine" has been earned, it is retained. There are no ex-Marines or former-Marines. There are (1) active duty Marines, (2) retired Marines, (3) reserve Marines, and (4) Marine veterans. Nonetheless, once one has earned the title, he remains a Marine for life.

OFFICIAL BIRTHDAY OF THE USMC:
All U.S. Marines are gung-ho. But, few can match the vision and total commitment of the famous 13th Commandant, General John A. LeJeune. In 1921 he issued Marine Corps Order No. 47, Series 1921.
General LeJeune's order summarized the history, mission, and tradition of the Marine Corps. It further directed that the order be read to all Marines on 10 November of each year to honor the founding of the Marine Corps. Thereafter, 10 November became a unique day for U.S. Marines throughout the world. Soon, some Marine commands began to not only honor the birthday, but celebrate it. In 1923 the Marine Barracks at Ft. Mifflin, Pennsylvania, staged a formal dance. The Marines at the Washington Navy Yard arranged a mock battle on the parade ground. At Quantanamo Bay, Cuba, the Marine baseball team played a Cuban team and won, 9 to 8.

THE MARINE CORPS BALL:
The first "formal" Birthday Ball took place on Philadelphia in 1925. First class Marine Corps style, all the way. Guests included the Commandant, the Secretary of War (in 1925 it was Secretary of War, not Secretary of Defense), and a host of statesmen and elected officials. Prior to the Ball, General LeJeune unveiled a memorial plaque at Tun Tavern. Then the entourage headed for the Benjamin Franklin Hotel and an evening of festivities and frolicking.

Over the years the annual Birthday Ball grew and grew, taking on a life of its own. In 1952 the Commandant, General Lemuel C. Shepherd, Jr., formalized the cake-cutting ceremony and other traditional observances. For example, Marine Corps policy now mandates that the first piece of cake must be presented to the oldest U.S. Marine present. The second piece goes to the youngest Marine. Among the many such mandates is a solemn reading of the Commandant's birthday message to the Corps.

Like the U.S. Marine Corps itself, the annual Birthday Ball has evolved from simple origins to the polished and professional functions of today. Nonetheless, one thing remains constant, the tenth day of November. This unique holiday for Marine warriors is a day of camaraderie, a day to honor Corps and Country.Throughout the world on 10 November, U.S. Marines celebrate the birth of their Corps -- the most loyal, most feared, most revered, and most professional fighting force the world has ever known.

ABOUT THE U.S. MARINES:
The United States Marine Corps is a force in readiness; always prepared to fight, anywhere, anytime.

There is a special aura surrounding the word "Marine." It means something different from a soldier, a cut above, and more can be expected from this person. Pride and cockiness are the trademarks of Marines, the strongest brotherhood in the world. To serve in the Marine Corps is to serve in an organization that demands and delivers excellence beyond all others. Service in the Marines leaves a lasting impression upon the innermost being of everyone who is privileged enough to serve. "Once a Marine, Always a Marine." To dispute this is to invite a brawl.

Marines enjoy a reputation of prowess in battle, that was earned "in every clime and place" throughout the world in our nation's history.

U.S. MARINES THE WORLD'S GREATEST WARRIORS:
Why are U.S. Marines considered the world's premier warriors?
What puts the Marine Corps above the rest? Other military services have rigorous training and weapons of equal or greater lethality. So, why do U.S. Marines stand head and shoulders above the crowd?

The truth lies in each person who wants to be a Marine. They did not just join the Marines. They must prove that they are Marines. Many have tried and failed. Only those who survive the crucible of Marine basic training, have been sculpted in mind and body into a Marine. They have become and proven they are Marines.

Once they have earned the title and entered the Brotherhood of Marines, then the new warrior can draw upon the legacy of his Corps. Therein lies their strength. In return, the strength of the Corps lies in the individual Marine. The character (often defined as "what you are in the dark") of these warriors is defined by the three constant Corps Values: honor, courage, and commitment.

HONOR: Honor requires each Marine to exemplify the ultimate standard in ethical and moral conduct. Honor is many things; honor requires many things. A U.S. Marine must never lie, never cheat, never steal, but that is not enough. Much more is required. Each Marine must cling to an uncompromising code of personal integrity, accountable for his actions and holding others accountable for theirs. And, above all, honor mandates that a Marine never sully the reputation of the Corps.

COURAGE: Simply stated, courage is honor in action -- and more. Courage is moral strength, the will to heed the inner voice of conscience, the will to do what is right regardless of the conduct of others. It is mental discipline, an adherence to a higher standard. Courage means willingness to take a stand for what is right in spite of adverse consequences. This courage, throughout the history of the Corps, has sustained Marines during the chaos, perils, and hardships of combat. And each day, it enables each Marine to look in the mirror -- and be proud.

COMMITMENT: Total dedication to Corps and Country. Gung-ho Marine teamwork. All for one, one for all. By whatever name or cliche, commitment is a combination of selfless determination and a relentless dedication to excellence. Marines never give up, never give in, never willingly accept second best. Excellence is always the goal. And, when their active duty days are over, Marines remain reserve Marines, retired Marines, or Marine veterans. There is no such thing as an ex-Marine or former-Marine. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Commitment never dies.

THE THREE CORPS VALUES: Honor, Courage, Commitment. They make up the bedrock of the character of each individual Marine. They are the foundation of the Corps. These three values, handed down from generation to generation, have made U.S. Marines the Warrior Elite. The U.S. Marine Corps: the most respected and revered fighting force on earth.

U.S. MARINE MASCOT:
Thanks to the German Army, the U.S. Marine Corps has an unofficial mascot. During World War I many German reports had called the attacking Marines "teufel-hunden," meaning Devil-Dogs. Teufel-hunden were the vicious, wild, and ferocious mountain dogs of German Bavarian folklore. Soon afterward a U.S. Marine recruiting poster depicted a snarling English Bulldog wearing a Marine Corps helmet. Because of the tenacity and demeanor of the breed, the image took root with both the Marines and the public. The Marines soon unofficially adopted the English Bulldog as their mascot.

At the Marine base at Quantico, Virginia, the Marines obtained a registered English Bulldog, King Bulwark. In a formal ceremony on 14 October 1922, Brigadier General Smedley D. Butler signed documents enlisting the bulldog, renamed Jiggs, for the "term of life." Private Jiggs then began his official duties in the U.S. Marine Corps.

A hard-charging Marine, Pvt. Jiggs did not remain a private for long. Within three months he was wearing corporal chevrons on his custom-made uniform. On New Years Day 1924, Jiggs was promoted to Sergeant. And in a meteoric rise, he got promoted again -- this time to Sergeant Major -- seven months later.

SgtMaj. Jiggs' death on 9 January 1927 was mourned throughout the Corps. His satin-lined coffin lay in state in a hangar at Quantico, surrounded by flowers from hundreds of Corps admirers. He was interred with full military honors.

A replacement was soon on the way. Former heavyweight boxing champion, James J. "Gene" Tunney, who had fought with the Marines in France, donated his English Bulldog. Renamed as Jiggs II, he stepped into the role of his predecessor.

But there was a big problem. No discipline! Jiggs chased people, he bit people. He showed a total lack of respect for authority.The new Jiggs would have likely made an outstanding combat Marine, but barracks life did not suit him. After one of his many rampages, he died of heat exhaustion on 1928. Nonetheless, other bulldogs followed. During the 1930s, 1940s, and early 1950s they were all named Smedley, a tribute to General Smedley Butler.

In the late 1950s the Marine Barracks in Washington, the oldest post in the Corps, became the new home for the Corps' mascot. Renamed Chesty to honor the legendary Lieutenant General Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, Jr., the mascot made his first formal public appearance at the Evening Parade on 5 July 1957. In his canine Dress Blues, Chesty became an immediate media darling, a smash hit.

After the demise of the original Chesty, the replacement was named Chesty II. He became an instant renegade. You name it, he did it. He even escaped and went AWOL once. Two days later he was returned in a police paddy wagon. About the only thing he ever managed to do correctly was to sire a replacement.

In contrast to his father, Chesty III proved to be a model Marine. He even became a favorite of neighborhood children, for which he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal. Other bulldogs would follow Chesty III (bulldogs don't live long). When Chesty VI died after an Evening Parade, a Marine detachment in Tennessee called Washington. Their local bulldog mascot, Lance Corporal Bodacious Little, was standing by for orders to Washington.

Upon arrival at the Marine Barracks in Washington, Lance Corporal Little got ceremoniously renamed Chesty VII. He and the English Bulldogs who followed him epitomize the fighting spirit of the U.S. Marines. Tough, muscular, aggressive, fearless, and often arrogant, they are the ultimate canine warriors.

English Bulldogs. "Teufel-hunden." "Devil Dogs." They symbolize the ethos of the Warrior Culture of the U.S. Marines.

Tolerance: Where does it lead us?

I read and hear daily of the argument for tolerance. Of course that is primarily aimed at our need to be tolerant of Islam; Muslims use our freedoms against us and we are encouraged to be tolerant of others. It all takes me back to my youth when I grew up racing track rabbits, then go-karts, mini-bikes and motorcycles.

When you grow up on the tracks as a kid you learn about engines and how they operate. I used to know a lot of things about engines then worked a decade in trucking and ran shops and learned about the diesel engine. One thing you learn about all those intricate parts and what makes the engine work. One of those things is the 'tolerance' allowed in building the parts.

You see if you want a high performance engine the tolerance allowed in each of the component parts is very little. In other words, if you want the engine to produce at its prime level then the piston you place in the cylinder and the cylinder itself must meet optimum designed for 'tolerance' or it will not perform as desired. It is just a fact. When the engine gets where you might need to replace a cylinder liner or the piston or other worn parts to 'maintain' the required 'tolerance' to insure performance.

Now think about this great nation. It is built on immigrants and we have always had open doors and we tolerated many religions, languages and increasingly, behavior. Why? Because that is what we, as Americans, do. Now introduce Islam. I have no problem with people being Muslim and worshiping their 'religion' any more than I care that people worship as Jehovah's Witnesses, Catholics, Seventh Day Adventists or anything else.

What I have a problem with is that their 'religion' comes with Sharia Law which violently conflicts with any behavior in a democratic country or even common sense. You see no other religions that bring with it their own laws and expect the society in which they now live to 'conform' to their beliefs and not become part of their 'new home'. That is where we are expected to be 'tolerant'. And this great country will not be as productive or as civil as it once was.

There are two ways to have the tallest building in town. One way is to build the tallest building; the other is to knock everyone else's building down but yours. That is Islam in action. They live with laws of the dark ages or even before. Their behavior and beliefs are in the stone age. And I say more power to them if that is what they believe. As long as you stay in your country and 'worship' as you will. But don't bring those 'laws' to my country - we do not believe as you do, and, this is our country.

The so called Nation of Islam believes in cutting the clitoris out of their daughters at pre-school age. They believe in demeaning women to the point that they are mere property. They believe in segregation, which we did away with decades ago. They believe in selling their daughters into marriage at any age. Where is our vaunted defenders of womens rights the National Organization of Women? The believe in mercy killings. Where is the American Civil Liberties Union?

If you think about it we went after David Korash in Waco for his off shoot organization and burned it to the ground. We went after Warren Jeff's and his polygamist group for 'raping' children and having more than one wife, bigamy, a law we sometimes enforce. Then we have Islam moving into our country under our noses doing many worse things than Korash or Jeff's and we are to be tolerant.

We are a nation that better get educated on Islam and better question the meaning of the word tolerant or our great nation will soon be a very underperforming engine headed for the scrap heap.

Islam Is Not A Religion, It Is Foreign Law

The time has come to question if Islam is protected under our First Amendment rights to freedom of religion. Yes, everyone in America has the right to freedom of religion, but Islam is not a religion. Religious faith is only a part of Islam. The rest is a socially engineered society with its own laws and customs that seriously conflict with American law.

Is Great Britain a religion because they have the Church of England? Of course not. Britain has an established charter, civil and criminal laws, and a society that respects those laws. Islam has the Qur'an that provides the governing charter, complete with laws, punishment, and social behavior for its people in addition to its religious teachings. If Islam is a religion, then Britain is also.

We must recognize that religion is only one aspect of Islam's Qur'an. The rest of this charter advances ideas, social behavior, and laws that are in direct conflict with American and western laws and values. Teddy Roosevelt once said that to live in America, immigrants must have undivided loyalty to America and to no one else. How is that possible for Muslims who swear loyalty to Islam where their governing laws are found in the Qur'an?

What legitimate religion would demand that its members either kill or convert people of other faiths? What legitimate religion is intent on imposing its own laws on the rest of the entire world? If Islam were just about praying to Allah and worshiping Mohammed and nothing more, we would not be having a problem with Islamism and Islamic terrorists. Islam has a global mission to take over and run the world according to Islamic Shariah law. How can we call that a religion?

What legitimate religion in this country comes with its own civil laws that take precedence over national, state, and local laws? No, Islam is not a religion. It is a governing doctrine that not only dictates religious beliefs, but also social behavior that includes laws, penalties and punishments, not by God, but by people if the laws are not obeyed. Islam is a form of government, not a religion. It does not belong here. We already have government under our Constitution (sort of).

As Muslims build their mega-Mosques in our nation - financed by Saudi Arabia - they laugh at the stupid Americans who are selling out their fellow citizens by allowing Islam to take over our country a little bit at a time. It is the same method used over decades by the Marxist Progressives who now have control of our government - take away our liberties one little piece at a time until full control and submission is achieved.

Islamists know they cannot destroy us militarily, but they also know that they can do it with political correctness and insisting that we respect their freedom of religion, even though they have no respect for ours. What religion recruits killers and terrorists in their place of worship, then sends them off to foreign training grounds to become proficient at mass murder? I know of only one. They are taught to kill in the name of God, but this is not the law of God who commanded "thou shall not kill" - it is the law of Mohammed who commanded "kill them all who will not convert."

The Qur'an blurs the lines between religion and government and teaches that Islamic government is God's law. It certainly is not. Why do we tolerate this abomination in America where our laws maintain a separation between church and state? To accept Islam in America is to accept Islamic law as well.

Are we out of our minds? Did anyone notice that we are at war with these people? Terrorists feed on the same rule book as other Muslims who have so far remained peaceful. Will they be making the same decision that Barack Obama made when he wrote in "Dreams Of My Father" - "When the political winds shift in an ugly direction, I will side with the Muslims?" It is always nice to know that our president is on our side when America goes to war. Too bad this one is not.

Muslim worship is protected under the First Amendment, Islamic law is not.
Until Muslims - and our own government - can accept that, then Islam cannot be considered a religion and Islamic culture does not belong here in North America.

De Je Vu All Over Again - Yogi was Right After All

I was reading an article just yesterday that reminded me of our problem in Vietnam. We were supporting and shoring up a corrupt government. Now that shouldn't be surprising in view of Iraq's history but the politicians just keep on keeping on that there are no comparisons between Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Lets look at some recent corruption. The US Government decided to win some hearts and minds by donating a few computer laptops to some schools in a specific Iraqi town, Babil. It was 8,080 to be exact. But it seems they were held up in 'customs' for months. Then unknown to anyone the shipment was 'mislabeled' and sent to Umm Qasr, a notorious bad place. What are the odds?

Of course of the five most corrupt governments in the world include Afghanistan and Iraq. Of course that is where we are changing hearts and minds. The other three by the way are the Sudan, Somalia and Myanmar. That's a real race of pigs there.

As for the laptops they turned up missing until the US Military got involved. The American military General in charge demanded an investigation into key people in the Iraqi government and was quickly censured and silenced. Seems his outspokenness was seen as troublesome to our Diplomats who were having to deal with the fallout of his accusations, which of course were correct. The kids still have no computers. The military had actually traced the laptops down in Iraqi Customs but couldn't get them released. Then the Iraqi government auctioned off 4,200 of them netting someone over $45,000 and the rest remain missing.

It brings back memories of my Mom sending my sniper team socks because Marine supply had none. And she provided us face paint from archery stores because we couldn't get it. Why? They say the 'black market' in Da Nang where our supplies flowed through. Then there was the case of the missing 'bouncing betty' mines in Da Nang. We provided our allies, the South Vietnamese, with 10,000 of these life enders only to have them go missing.

It wasn't long before elements of the 1st Battalion 9th Marines guarding some of the hills surrounding our massive air base in Da Nang, were encircled with bouncing betty's. When they ran patrols and ambushes, which you must, they suffered over 50% casualties in one month without ever seeing the enemy. The scene was so ugly, since these American designed mines would blow a person in half, that the survivors were later sent to different units and they had to start over for that company. I am sure those guys are heavy on the PTSD to this day. All because of our wonderful partners in war, the Republic of Vietnam.

Are they similar? They are the same.

I am a voracious reader most of the time. I read a lot of Nam books and our current situation in Afghanistan and Iraq. I read a lot of special op's books and am always struck by the fact of what these men do for our country and so few even know of their commitment and actions. We're all somewhat familiar with the overall role of our Armed Forces but we also get complacent and forget. I know the video below has been around awhile. It is of Ollie North speaking to a dinner on the state and readiness of today's forces. Well worth the two and a half minutes.

Unions and Obamanation: Coming to a Business Near You

In my career I've had more than a few dealings with unions. And I might add I believe that there was certainly a time where they were needed. That time has passed in most cases. And if a company is going to have a union then there needs to be a secret ballot, just like there is for every other election we have in this country.

But that is just the tip of the iceberg. I got an email the other day from a friend out west who told me he was being laid off, along with eighteen co-workers, all who were contractors with the US government. Now that in itself isn't surprising in this economy. What is surprising is the reason for his layoff. He was laid off along with eighteen others because they were non-union contractors and the government no longer wants to use 'non-union contractors'.

Now that makes me feel lots better about Obamanation's leadership and direction for our country. First he says we have to have open ballot union elections then he begins laying off non-union contractors. Ahh - to live in a free country. Remember this in November!

Immigration - Is Everyone Using Our Freedom Against Us?

We have our Fed's ignoring the issue of immigration, rather illegal immigration. I read just yesterday and our head of ICE (a new acronym) has issued a directive to his agency that they are only to focus on illegal's that have committed a felony. Wonderful.

ICE is Immigration Customs Enforcement. Yet another agency that seems to be a hybrid of the Immigration and Naturalization and US Customs. Bottom line the Fed's are still stonewalling the enforcement of our laws. It is as plain as that and they get away with it.

But lets take a look at what some other countries do with illegal immigrants. We'll start with our southern nemesis ... Mexico. They immediately jail illegals yet President Calderon can sleep at night while complaining to the United Nations about Arizona. Of course our wonderful leader, Barry Obama, writes a formal human rights violation to the United Nations against our own state of Arizona. Wonder where his loyalties stand?

Then there is China, our manufacturing center, illegals are immediately jailed and often beaten, especially if you are from North Korea. How about Saudi Arabia? Straight to jail. Venezuela where Chavez is always fat mouthing about his great and free nation - anyone entering as an illegal is considered a spy and jailed, subject to torture and death.

Well, what about other nations? Iran who is always mouthing off about something anti-American, well an illegal there is jailed indefinitely. Or Egypt, who addresses illegals from their Arab brothers, Syria, Iraq and most other countries are forbidden from entering restaurants, office buildings and cannot ride buses. Sounds weird to me and unenforceable but?

Japan a good ally of ours simply deports illegals immediately. North Korea gives illegals 12 years of hard labor or shoots them based on who knows what. But then who is trying to sneak in to North Korea. And we'll end with Cuba our southern neighbor who called Arizona's law "racist and xenophobic' as well as "a brutal violation of human rights". When you are caught entering Cuba illegally you are sent directly to 'political prison' not passing go and no questions asked.

My point is that these countries and many more are quick to use our media, our freedoms and our complacency against us to bring this country down. Think about the balls of Mexico's so called President calling our laws a violation of human rights when they allow their people to be brutalized and having a culture of corruption that forces their people to leave.

And we have a so called President who doesn't call him on his bullshit. Instead, he sides with Mexico and protests in an unprecedented move to the UN with a human rights complaint against his own state. Unbelievable!

Remember this the next time you hear of the horrible law in Arizona and all the complaints. All the states want is for our Federal government to enforce the laws on the books and quit making new ones. Also, remember this come November and vote the crooks out.

Why on Earth is it Wrong to Burn the Qur'an?

Now honestly I'm not into burning anything, let alone a Qur'an. But what intrigues about the issue that was just stopped in Florida is why the outrage? People burn Bibles in this country and we were founded as a Christian Nation. People burn flags in this country and it represents freedom from oppression the world over.

So what is it that we can't use our 'freedom of speech' and burn the Qur'an. Well, I think it has to do with the new brand of Americanism our great messiah Barry is ushering in to the leadership and future direction of our once Great Country. We would not want to offend Muslims. And Muslims would declare their right to protection under our laws.

Lets see - they can kill and hang people from a bridge in Iraq; they can burn our flags and Bibles whenever they want ... but lest we forget, you do not make cartoons about them, write bad messages about them or Allah forbid - burn their holy book.

Political correctness and this blatant double standard is going to cost this Nation its freedom if we do not wake up and call a spade a spade. We have this group of 'holy' people sworn to bring out nation down using our own laws and the stupidity of our leadership to bring us down from within.

You can look to what England is dealing with and see where we are headed. If we don't wake up and smell the enemy ... we ARE the problem. Remember this come November!

Where is Charlie Urgen when I Need Him? DISH Service Sucks

Probably like many of you, you sit back in the evening watching a little of the boob tube. And just like a bad penny CEO and Co-Founder of DISH Network is on there sounding homey, down to earth (he does seem like a nice fellow) and our buddy is on there extolling the virtues of his great service. Well ... I beg to differ.

Since I travel a bit I have a need to turn my actual programming off at one place and on at another. The actual process I've found doesn't take that long and two months ago the switch went like clockwork. The only thing consistent however in talking with DISH 'Customer Service' (I use the term loosely) is that they are completely inconsistent in their advice.

Let me give you my last four days, the short version:

1. I arrive in UT and call in to have my zip code changed and a new address given. All goes well, the young lady spoke English and I could understand and I thought I'd won the DISH lottery.

2. My DISH dish won't lock in on either of the two satellites my service uses. I call Tech Support. We go through the drill with an English speaking gentlemen, he is quite nice, I am led through steps I could now teach I have done this so much and ... nothing works. I am told that after the tests the two 'pointers' on my satellite dish are bad and need replaced. I say I doubt it since it works all the time. I hang up.

3. Day 3 arrives I finally call that evening, go through the exact same trouble shooting since of course it is on their computer screens they are reading from. We end at the exact same spot, I am not locked on a satellite and don't have service. However this time, after all the tests my crack representative that Charlie talks about in his nightly commercial says ... the problem is with your receiver - we will send you a new one. I said look this receiver is one year old, never gave me trouble - that is not it. I hang up.

4. Day Four, for reasons God may only know, my dish locked in on one of my satellites so we say what the hey - we'll go with it. We of course have to go through the entire debunking process once again which takes about 30 minutes. We download the programming and have everything but local channels. No problemo - I call DISH back and get a kind of English speaker who says it is not a problem and he works his magic on the computer and says, success! But I didn't have local channels or much patience with Charlie's crack support staff either. I called it a night.

5. Day Five has to be better, right? Not so my friends. I get an English speaker at least and of course he tells me, you're right, no problemo - not so. We go through the entire computer screen of prompts, and God forbid that you ask them to skip one because you have learned how to do it yourself the previous half dozen times ... no, no, each step and one half of an hour. The result ... no local programming. The problem - must be on your end he says, maybe a connection? Umm? I am viewing thirty of their package channels but my connection is preventing me from getting the locals. I hang up.

6. I am determined this time because I know in the end it is an easy problem if only I could get the right person I talked with last time a couple months back. I call right back and this time I get a barely English speaker who I can barely understand. It took my 15 minutes to just get him to understand I 'wanted' the local channels. He keep saying, "I unnerstan. You wan me to take off your other channels an just leave locals" NO. After we solved that we went through, yes, the full Monty of computer screens tests, 30 minutes and, well, same result. He says he is sure it is my receiver. I hang up.

7. Still Day 5 I call right back. I get an even worse English speaker than the last time. He insists I go through the tests. I do with my wife getting just a tad out of control in the background. We get the same result and he tells me it is my receiver and he will send me one. So I take the bait and I say well then send it, 'it won't cost anything will it?' He says, which was after every single question 'please let me check my resources' which I know to mean is another computer screen of prompts.

The bottom line is it will cost me $15 shipping which of course is a good deal on a $150 receiver, that is of course IF I NEEDED ONE. I knew it wasn't the receiver and told him so. Reading I am sure from a prompt - he tells me what I need is a service contract and then I wouldn't pay for the shipping ever again. I say, "Well, how much does that cost?" A mere $6 a month, You do the math. I tell him I want to talk to his Supervisor.

8. After a ten minute hold waiting for his Supervisor a nervous young lady got on the line and asked how she could help. I told her she was my 8th person to talk with on this simple problem. She spoke with an island accent but was understandable and polite, but not all that helpful. Yes you guessed it, for the 7th time I unplugged my receiver, rebooted, ran through all the test screens in spite of my pleas for my sanity. And in this process she happened to say, " Well I am looking at your account and the previous reps said you needed a receiver? I ended that and asked he 'what else might we try?'.

She wasn't sure but said, 'I am looking at your account now and it allows all local channels in Salt Lake where you are so I don't know why you aren't getting them, it must be your equipment. I explained that I've been watching their programming for three days with no locals - yada yada yada. Now keep in mind here on the ending, that part of all those tests I did is keyed on getting a satellite signal from a particular satellite in my case 119. Every rep knew that.

Drum roll please ... she says again, "Well I am looking at it right now and is it streaming down from 110 and ... " I interrupt with 'did you say 110" Well yessir. I said as calmly as I could ... "Don't you think that would be a problem since I am on 119?" She said that 'may be it'.

So I asked her if she might give me 15 minutes to site in 110 and call me back to make sure at this point that this 10 year plus customer had the service he contracted for. She kindly said she was not authorized to make outbound calls. I asked if I might call her directly since I had at least made it into management? She kindly replied that no, I could not call her directly but she would put a note in my account in case it didn't work. It was the same answer for email. No contact with the customers ...

Well, I hung up and pointed my DISH to satellite 110 and there they were all along, my elusive local channels. That led me to think ... maybe CEO Charlie Urgen should spend a tad more time in the office, ensuring that his Customer Service department is actually performing the way he is reporting on TV. Charlie, a little less camera time.

But now that I think about it ... our entire business world is on tilt.

Oh the Blessings Our Politicians Bring to Us

Well we read a lot of what is to come from our 'National Health Care Reform' and who knows what to believe other than that its going to be worse than what is going on now and of course we are paying for it. And the people voting it in aren't covered by it. But today I received this from a good friend and I don't know the Author but it is so true I had to share the thought ...

"Let me get this straight. We're going to be "gifted" with a health care
plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, written by a
committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a
Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, to be
signed by a president who also smokes, with funding administered by a
treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, to be overseen by a surgeon
general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke. What the
hell could possibly go wrong?"
